Polished Ammonite Half – Madagascar
3 in stock
This beautifully polished ammonite fossil half reveals the intricate internal chamber structure of one of the world’s most iconic extinct marine animals. Each specimen displays a unique arrangement of chambers, mineralisation and natural colouration, ensuring that no two ammonites are ever exactly alike.
Ammonites were marine cephalopods closely related to modern squid, octopus and nautilus. They inhabited Earth’s oceans for over 300 million years before becoming extinct alongside the dinosaurs approximately 66 million years ago. Their distinctive spiral shells and widespread distribution have made them among the most recognisable and sought-after fossils in the world.
This specimen has been carefully cut and polished to expose the remarkable internal architecture of the shell, including the chamber divisions that once helped the animal regulate buoyancy as it moved through ancient seas. Variations in mineral preservation create a fascinating range of natural colours and patterns, from warm golden tones to deeper browns and greys.
Sourced from Madagascar, these polished ammonites offer an accessible introduction to fossil collecting while also making attractive decorative and educational display pieces.
