A genuine Palaeolithic hand axe expertly crafted by early humans and preserved for hundreds of thousands of years. Carefully fashioned from stone using controlled flaking techniques, these iconic tools represent one of humanity’s earliest and most significant technological achievements.

Hand axes were versatile implements used for a wide range of everyday tasks, including butchering animals, woodworking, hide preparation and food processing. Their distinctive bifacial form demonstrates remarkable skill and provides a direct connection to the ingenuity and survival of our prehistoric ancestors.

This specimen displays the characteristic teardrop profile and flake scars created during its manufacture, with natural surface patination developed over immense periods of time. The result is an authentic archaeological artefact that combines historical significance with understated display appeal.

Recovered in Niger, this hand axe offers a tangible link to prehistoric human life and makes an exceptional addition to collections of archaeology, early human history or natural history.
