Goniatite Fossil on Orthoceras Stand – Morocco
1 in stock
This polished Goniatite display has excellent visual impact, combining a large cream and brown fossil with a contrasting black Orthoceras stand. The spiral itself is particularly attractive, with bold zig-zag suture lines running through the chambers and a strong natural pattern visible across both sides.
The polish brings out the fossil structure very clearly, giving the Goniatite a smooth finish and allowing the chamber pattern to stand out against the lighter stone. Its sculptural open spiral form adds further character, while the warm cream, tan and brown tones give the fossil a softer, more decorative appearance than the darker polished examples more commonly seen.
The stand adds considerably to the piece rather than simply supporting it. Made from polished black Orthoceras fossil stone, it contains numerous pale fossil sections visible across the top and sides, creating a striking contrast with the lighter Goniatite above. Together they form a complete display piece that is ready to place straight onto a shelf, desk or cabinet.
Goniatites were extinct marine cephalopods related to later ammonites, with coiled chambered shells divided internally by distinctive sutures. Their shells are especially valued as fossils when polished because the internal structure and complex suture patterns become far more visible.
